Aid for Friends

Prepared food or funds to buy food for the poor of the parish.  Food is cooked and

put into church supplied containers and frozen by parishioners and kept in freezers

for distribution to the poor. 

 

Altar Servers

St. Nicholas School girls and boys from the 4th grade to high school are trained by

our Sacristan for weekend Masses, Holy Day Masses, Weddings and Funerals.

Bereavement Ministry 

Preparation for Funeral Liturgy and support of the family.

Lead singing during Liturgies.  

   

Children's Liturgy of the Word

Sunday - 11:00 AM Children from the 1st to 4th grades of Catholic and Public

Schools are dismissed from Sunday Mass, with a special blessing, after the

opening prayer. They are taken to the lower church to hear the Liturgy of the

Word (two readings and the Gospel) read and explained in language that they

can understand.

Community of Disciples

Faith sharing groups during Lent

 

CYO Sports (Catholic Youth Organization)

A sports program for boys and girls. Basketball,  volleyball,   handball, softball, soccer, intramural program and cheerleaders.

Eucharistic Adoration Society 

Tuesdays - 9:00 AM to 12 Noon.

Bringing The Good News of Christ to All.

 

Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist

Bring the Holy Eucharist to homebound parishioners and also help distribute Holy Communion at weekend Masses.

Finance Committee 

Meetings quarterly. Helps the Pastor with the financial concerns of the parish.

 

First Friday Devotions

After morning masses. Special prayers are said after each mass on the First  Friday of the month.

 

Food Cupboard

Non-perishable food is donated by the parishioners and distributed to the needy.

 

Golden Age Club

Mondays at 9:30 AM at St. Nicholas Hall. A vibrant gathering of the parish's Senior Citizens enjoying trips, games, parties and fund raisers.

Holy Name Society 

Meetings on Tuesdays at 8:15 PM preceding 2nd Sunday. Communion Sunday: 2nd Sunday of the month. A men's group of the parish who give honor to The Holy Name of Jesus by using their gifts to help at church functions, such as ushering at Mass, greeting parishioners and helping whenever they are asked.

Home & School Association 

A support system of St. Nicholas of Tolentine School. An active group of parents, teachers and Principal. The Home & School Association (HSA) is responsible for work in conjunction with Pastor and Principal to enhance programs in school and for fund raisers, such as Marathons, Chocolate Drives, Parties, Dances, Casino Trips and other trips. All for the benefit of the school.

Ministers of the Word (Lectors)

Each weekend Mass has two readers for the Liturgy of the Word segment of the Mass and a Commentator to help with pre-Mass announcements, the intercessions and announcing the hymns.

Nar-Anon Support Group

Every Thursday at 7:30 PM in the Rectory Meeting Room. This group uses our facilities for their very important work.

 

Nursing Home Greetings Committee

Greeting cards are sent to our parishioners, who have moved from their own homes into nursing care facilities, letting them know that the church is thinking of them.

Parish Newsletter

A quarterly Newsletter distributed to each house in the parish with news that is not contained in the Sunday Bulletin. Our Church volunteers distributes the four page Newsletter.

Parish Pastoral Council

Meets the last Monday of the month. Members are both voted for by the parishioners and appointed by the pastor. Members are a consultative body which advises and assists the pastor in areas of pastoral concern. The council participates in ongoing pastoral planning on a parish and cluster level. Our cluster is Cluster #24.

Pre-Baptismal Instructions

Thursday before Baptism Sunday at 7:30 PM. Instructions for the parents and Godparents of the child regarding the importance of the Sacrament of Baptism.

     

Post Baptismal Journey Program

A program that consists of delivering seven sets of parent letters and materials designed to help parents of newly baptized babies. The packages, starting right after Baptism, are delivered at six month intervals through the child's third birthday. This program offers spiritual support and guidance as parents raise their children in the Catholic faith.

Pro-Life/Respect Life Committee

Active group keeping parishioners aware of the right to life by prayer services, demonstrations, telephone calls to legislators and fund raisers to help educate the public.

Sodality of Blessed Virgin Mary 

An organization that gives honor  to our Blessed Mother through prayers, song and good works. Services every Monday 12 Noon. Communion Sunday: 3rd Sunday of the Month. Group leaders meeting: 2nd Monday of the month. The Sodality, honoring Our Lady, is open to women and men.

Video Library - Rectory Office

The Dr. Jannelli Video Library has many informative, inspiring and entertaining videos. Videos can be rented for $1.00 for five days. (The fee is used to buy more  videos.)
